Which Boston Whaler Boat Should You Buy?

May 05, 2020

For over half a century, one of the leading names in American boat manufacturing has been Boston Whaler. Known as the Unsinkable Legend™, this company is responsible for dependable boats that make for great pleasure cruising with the family.

Gordon Bay Marine, located in MacTier, is your Ontario Boston Whaler dealer. Read on to learn more about this company and what their boats can offer you in terms of performance. We’ve highlighted three of their models, the Conquest, the Montauk and the Super Sport, to help you decide on the right boat for you.

History

Boston Whaler was established in 1958 by a Harvard graduate and marine enthusiast, Richard “Dick” Fisher, of Braintree, Massachusetts. During the 1950s, Fisher constructed his initial crafts of polyurethane foam because it was more durable than balsa wood. His prototypes had two keels and were exceedingly buoyant, but necessitated some trial and error before they were truly seaworthy. His partner, the naval architect C. Raymond Hunt, gave him some assistance with the process until the first Boston Whaler 13 with a V-hull was designed in 1956.

Since the very beginning, one of the qualities that the company has touted heavily has been their boats’ unsinkability. Boats were often shown sawn in half, yet still afloat on the water, thanks to their lightweight and buoyant construction that relies on a foam core interior. The boats have also remained afloat after being shot at and while swamped, leading to the moniker, “The Unsinkable Legend.”

Boston Whaler has been a part of the Brunswick Corporation since 1996, and its headquarters have moved south down the Eastern Seaboard from Massachusetts to Edgewater, Florida.

Conquest

A sleek deep-V hull, wide beam and a number of thoughtful amenities make this Boston Whaler boat the ideal saltwater fishing craft. Take advantage of the power provided by the Mercury Verado engine and cutting-edge technology to head out into the open sea with confidence. Not only that, but you can use the Conquest for off-shore entertaining. The cockpit has adjustable seats and the cabin gives you all the comfort you need for overnight cruising with an enclosed head, a galley and an entertainment center.

Montauk

This Boston Whaler boat is one of the most popular center-console models out there, thanks to how practical and versatile it is. The Montauk’s shallow draft allows for a fast plane and stable ride. This makes the boat ideal for fishing, pleasure cruising and watersports towing. With the Montauk, you get a cozy and comfortable boat that even has the storage you need to stash away your fishing equipment and watersports gear, allowing you to keep the deck free and open.

Super Sport

Take this load-and-go boat out on the water in a snap, thanks to how easy it is to trailer, park and operate. The Mercury FourStroke outboard motor gives you all the power you need to get where you’re going, while the sturdy craftsmanship ensures that the Super Sport can handle utility work and fishing with no problems. No-feedback steering provides you with superior control and simple handling. Customize your Super Sport with an array of seating options and sun-tops for some shelter while you cruise.

No matter which Boston Whaler you choose, you’ll get a craft that’s designed with all the storage you need, along with comfortable seating, as well as the company’s unsinkability promise.
